Video Playback Help

If you're having trouble playing our videos, try any of these various playback options. If you have any of these programs and they still don't work, you may need to update them, as we use H.264, which is a relatively new codec.

Windows Users

1. Quicktime/iTunes - Our movies are compressed using Quicktime Pro. Using Quicktime is your safest bet for getting the videos to work. If you already have iTunes installed, you also have Quicktime installed, because iTunes comes with it automatically. You can choose either of the two that you like to watch the films.

2. VLC - VLC (or Video Lan Client aka VideoLan) is a popular, open-source, media player that supports a large number of video and audio formats using built-in codecs, including H.264. Our videos will play fine in it without any additional software. VLC is only officially supported in Windows 2000 and XP, but several versions of 95, 98, and ME will allow you to install it. Incompatibilities may appear in these older versions, however.

3. x264 Codec with Media Player Classic - The makers of VLC also make a stand-alone H.264 codec. When it is installed you can use several media players to open H.264 encoded files. One of the most popular media players, and the one we recommend, is Media Player Classic. It is a very lightweight and powerful player. This method is not only the most difficult to get working, it is also the buggiest. It is suggested for people who know what they are doing or those who want the freedom of having a cross-media player codec.

Mac Users

1. Quicktime/iTunes - If you're using OS X, you should already have Quicktime/iTunes installed. Since iTunes uses Quicktime's playback library, either will work fine in watching our videos. You will need Quicktime version 7 or greater though. H.264 has also been integrated into OS X since version 10.4 (Tiger).

2. VLC - VLC (or Video Lan Client aka VideoLan) is a popular, open-source, media player that supports a large number of video and audio formats using built-in codecs, including H.264. Our videos will play fine in it without any additional software. You will need OS X version 10.3.9 or higher to install it.
